Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The North Central University (NCU) volleyball team jumped right back into action this morning for day two of the Mount Mary Tournament. At 10 am, the Rams squared off against the host Mount Mary University (MMU) and then took on Lawrence University (LU). NCU took MMU to five close sets unfortunately ending in a Blue Angel victory (25-17, 27-29, 25-22, 25-27, 8-15). In the second matchup of the day, the Rams lost in four sets with LU (15-25, 18-25, 23-25, 22-25).
Game 1 Recap
NCU came out hot to start the game ending the first set on a 9-3 run. Like the previous night, all of the sets were very close coming down to the last few points.
Grace Brigson (West Salem, WI, West Salem High School) had a career high of 46 assists to get the Ram's offense going.
Brigson also led the team with four service aces. Libero
Hannah Fischer (Kenyon, MN, Kenyon Wanamingo High School) put in major effort in the back row supplying NCU with 33 total digs. In the front row,
Morgan Delange (Corsica, SD, Corsica-Stickney High School) led the way with 15 kills closely followed by
Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) and
Makayla Krohnberg (Blaine, MN, Blaine High School) who had 12 a piece. The Rams continued to go back and forth with the Blue Angels throughout the whole game, but MMU was able to just slip ahead in the final set, getting the win over NCU.
Game 2 Recap
Despite the energy expended in the first match of the day, NCU again came out strong in the first set beating the Vikings by ten points.
DiGiorgio and
Krohnberg were great on the net again for the Rams with ten kills each.
Krohnberg also added in three service aces and helped on the defensive end with eight digs.
Hailey Lerfald (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo High School),
Jaselyn Anderson (Farmington, MN, Christian Life Academy), and
Delange were other notable NCU players adding into the Ram's offense. NCU was able to keep up their spirits through the long games the previous night and the one the just played previously.
Key Performers
- Setter Grace Brigson excelled in her position with 74 total assists for the Rams.
- In both games, Makayla Krohnberg showed up big with 12 kills against MMU and 10 against LU. She added in 25 total digs for the day.
Looking Ahead
The Rams travel back to Minnesota to play Macalester College right next store in St. Paul. The nonconference matchup is scheduled for this coming Wednesday at 7 pm. All fans are encouraged to tune into official Rams
