MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Back into
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on a Friday night, the North Central University (NCU) volleyball defended their home court against the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM). It was a game full of lead changes and momentum switches, but the Cougars were able to end the night with a win (25-19, 17-25, 25-7, 25-22).
Game Recap
From the first set, anyone in the crowd could tell it was going to be a close game. Both teams had a number of great volleys and the point could have gone either way. After the Cougars won the first set, the Rams really turned it up in the second averaging a .368 hitting percentage as a team. NCU also had six service aces in this set alone.
Makayla Krohnberg (Blaine, MN, Blaine High School) led the Rams in services aces with five total followed by
Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) with three.
After a second set win for NCU, UMM took the third. The fourth set left everyone on the edge of their seats. The Cougars and the Rams went extremely even on stats in this fourth set showing the competitiveness of this last 25 points.
Hannah Fischer's (Kenyon, MN, Kenyon Wanamingo High School) leadership on the defensive end helped out NCU immensely. Along with Fischer,
Grace Brigson (West Salem, WI, West Salem High School) had an excellent night setting up her teammates to slam it down on UMM's side. Towards the end of the fourth, the Rams gained so much momentum that the Cougars' coach had to call a time out. UMM reached 25 points before NCU unfortunately, but the Rams look forward to traveling to the Cougars' court further down the season.
