Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rams cruise through the Storm with 5-0 win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- Riding off of a competitive game the previous night, the North Central University (NCU) men's soccer team had a point to prove in today's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup. Facing off with Crown College (CC), the Rams easily rode back with the win firmly dominating the Storm 5-0.

Game Vitals
  • NCU had 22 shots and 14 on goal.
  • The Ram's scored three goals within ten minutes in the first half.

Game Recap

The fact that it was CC's homecoming weekend did not stop NCU from completely destroying on the pitch in every aspect. From defense to offense and physicality to technical ability, the Rams excelled above the Storm in every category and with every player on the 24 man roster. NCU took their time possessing the ball to pull the Storm's defense out. Their patience proved affective as the Rams netted in three goals about half way through the first half and two more in the second. With each goal, the game belonged more and more to NCU.

Elliott Lebsack (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School) shined on the offensive end with two goals. Weston Buckley (Budapest, HU, International Christian School of Budapest), Evan Ackley (Sun Prairie, WI, Sun Prairie High School), and Diego Zavala-Varela (Brooklyn Park, MN, Park Center Senior High School) scored the other three goals for the Rams. Rodrigo De Mendoza (Panama City, Panama, Crossroads Christian Academy), Buckley, and Anthony Medina played well in their central positions, driving the ball into space and feeding their outside midfielders. Tyler Johnsen (Lindstrom, MN, Chisago Lakes High School) and Evan Ackley (Sun Prairie, WI, Sun Prairie High School) held a strong backline throughout the 90 minutes that often left CC's offense frustrated. While keeper Sam Thurston (Crystal, MN, Robbinsdale Cooper) did not get a ton of action, he had eight saves and made some phenomenal decisions from the goal. After this display of dominance, NCU is getting on the UMAC map and forcing other teams to watch out for when the Ram's come into town.

Looking Ahead

The Rams look to dominate again this upcoming Tuesday at 5 pm against UMAC opponent Bethany Lutheran College. NCU will be away for this match as well.
