Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

The Rams cruise past the Lumberjacks

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- In another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup, the North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team faced off against Northland College (NC). With an impressive first half in their baby blue University edition jerseys, the Rams pushed past the the Lumberjacks as they got the victory 105-59.

Game Recap

The gym was packed on the Friday night and after an early fast break dunk by Konrad Bueckers (Pine River, MN), the fans were ecstatic. The Rams kept up the excitement with a press forcing the Lumberjacks to fight their way up the court. NCU moved the ball extremely well, finding open shooters in the corner or a quick pass to the inside. The Rams controlled the paint as Jonathan Thompson (Kansas City, MO, Park Hill South High School) and Cameron Thomas (Aurora, CO, Grandview High School) put up basket after basket. When the defense collapsed on the posts, the NCU shooters were ready to knock down shots, Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian School) being one of those shooters hitting three three point shots in the first half. At the half, the Rams were up 55-26.

NCU kept up the heat going into the second half and Filer was a big reason for that. He hit four three pointers in a row and ended up having seven in the game. The game was team oriented as the Rams had 19 assists and 82 points coming from the bench. NCU out rebounded the Lumberjacks 50 to 29 with 13 offensive boards. Because of their high pressure defense and quick transition, the Rams scored 17 points off of NC's turnovers. Adding to this show of skill, NCU scored 46 points in the paint to extended their lead even further.

With this win, the men's basketball team 9-7 on the season and 4-2 in the UMAC.

Key Performers
  • Micah Filer had a great night with 31 points off of seven three pointers. He shot 78% from the field and 70% from the three point line.
  • Cameron Thomas added 12 points to the score along with four rebounds.
  • Jonathan Thompson gave the Rams ten points and four rebounds.
