Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

A big second quarter pushes the Rams over the Yellowjackets

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Coming off a monster win, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball looked to continue their success in an afternoon matchup with the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS). The Rams kicked it into gear in the second quarter to ultimately beat the Yellowjackets 78-57 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competition.

Game Recap

NCU opened up the ball game with a three from Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School). The Rams got up early in the first quarter by seven. The Yellowjackets fought to cut NCU's lead but were unable to control the Ram's electric offense. NCU really took off in the second quarter as they impressively executed their half-court offense. The three ball added to the Rams success as Naomi Hagstrom (Zimmerman, MN, Zimmerman High School) and Mary Seegers (Oconomowoc, WI, Homeschool) started to heat up from deep. UWS tried to stop the Rams' offense but only managed to foul on the shot, which turned into many made free throws. NCU beat the Yellowjackets 22-9 in the second ten minutes and were up 40-21 at the half.

DiGiorgio led the charge in the third quarter, using her height and her left hand to her advantage. DiGiorgio added to the Ram's 36 points in the paint. UWS' offensive rebounding and free throws kept them alive in the third quarter. But the three point shooting from NCU was too much for the Yellowjackets to handle, as Seegers, Hagstrom, and Aubrey Robinson (Colorado Springs, CO, Sierra High School) added to their made baskets. The Rams got the ball flowing, working together well as team, and generating 17 assists. This win puts the women's basketball team at 14-1 on the season and 4-1 in the UMAC as they continue their historic season.
