Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- Opening up the new year, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball traveled a state to the east in competition with Mount Mary University (MMU). The Rams completed the sweep of the Blue Angels this season with a score of 101-43.
Game Recap
After a back-and-forth opening minutes, NCU turned it up and went on a 16-0 run. The Rams were lights out shooting pretty much all night, but especially in the first quarter as NCU shot 75% from the three-point line. This shooting performance was helped by forward
Naomi Hagstrom (Zimmerman, MN, Zimmerman High School) who went 7-8 in the first ten minutes from downtown and drained 11 three's overall.
The Rams moved the ball extremely well as they pushed the pace of the game never letting the Blue Angels catch up. NCU had 21 assists in the first half alone led by point guard
Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy) with ten and
Mary Seegers (Oconomowoc, WI, Homeschool) with eight. The offense of the Rams stretched their amazing 39-11 first quarter lead to 61-27 at the half.
Coming into the third quarter, NCU continued their offensive success. As MMU collapsed on the outside shooters, it allowed for cutters such as
Bethany Shield (Lincoln, NE, Lincoln Southwest High School) or
Joelle Talso (Ramsey, MN, Spring Lake Park High School) to penetrate and score. Furthermore, it opened up the key for posts
Kaitlyn VanderPloeg (Clear Lake, IA, Clear Lake High School),
Micayla Jones (Chicago, IL, De La Salle Institute), and
Mackenzie Fletcher (Kuna, ID, Emmett High School) The height of these three and the scrappy hands of the surrounding guards permitted 37 boards for the Rams.
With her dominating performance,
Hagstrom broke two program records as she recorded 11 threes and tallied up 40 points, continuing the Rams historic season. With this 58 point win, NCU stays undefeated at 11-0, racking in their fifth 100 point game of the season.
