Minneapolis, MN - The NCCAA North Regional Men's Soccer Tournament began this morning (11/2) with three contests being played throughout the day. Two of the three contests were hosted by North Central University at Elliot Park, while the final contest was played at Crown College's Old National Bank Stadium.
In the first contest of the day, the #2 Faith Baptist took on the #7 Trinity Bible at 11:00 AM at Elliot Park. The Eagles of Faith Baptist came out hot as they were firing shots immediately and were able to find the back of the twine in the fourth minute of the match with the goal coming from
Josh Forgie. Forgie was able to get his second of the game just fifteen minutes later in the ninteenth minute, putting the Eagles up 2-0. Faith would not stop there as they were able to score two more goals in the first half in the twenty-fourth minute and the thirty-second minute. The goals came from
James Busenitz and
Seth Elliott, respectively. The half ended with the score at 4-0 in favor of the Eagles. The Lions of Trinity were able to get on the board early in the second half, scoring in the fifty first minute off the foot of
Damien Myers. This was not enough for the Lions to start a come back effort however as they were held off the board the remainder of the game. The Eagles would find the back of the net one more time with
William Holst making his mark in the eighty-fourth minute. This goal would be the final goal of the match, putting the score at a 5-1 final in favor of the eagles.
In the second contest, the #4 North Central played the #5 Maranatha Baptist with a 1:30 PM start time, also at Elliot Park. The game started off with the Rams having the majority of the scoring chances early, but were unable to capitalize at first. Eventually after a handful of good chances, the Rams were able to score in the fortith minute with the goal coming off the foot of
Alex Chacich. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Rams heading into the half. In the second half, the Sabercats were able to start off with some offensive zone possession but never really got a good opportunity. The Rams would end up putting the pressure back on and were able to find the back of the net one more time in the sixty-seventh minute of the match. Alex Chacich was able to put home his second of the day giving the Rams the 2-0 lead, which would eventually become the final.
Jerad Buse was in net for the Rams and was able to get the shut out, stopping the one shot he faced in the contest.Â
In the third and final contest of the day, the #3 Emmaus took on the #6 Crown College at Old National Bank Stadium. After a long battle it was Crown that was able to take the match at the end of the day with a 2-1 victory.Â
Looking Ahead:
The semi-final matchups will take place at Elliot Park on Friday (11/4), starting with the #2 Faith Baptist versus the #6 Crown College at 9:00 AM. Following that game will be the #1 Providence taking on #4 North Central at 11:30 AM.
