Crown College wins the NCCAA North Region Men's Soccer Tournament

Minneapolis, MN - Crown College won the NCCAA North Regional Tournament Saturday (11/5) afternoon. In the championship match up versus Providence Manitoba, the Polars were able to win the close battle that went overtime in a final score of 2-1.

The first half of the game was filled with action. Crown was putting the pressure on early but Providence was able to strike first on there first rush down the field. Garreth Rayner was the one to put the pilots up 1-0 in just the fourth minute of the match, taking the momentum early. The remainder of the first half was a tough battle on both sides, but neither team was able to score, leaving Providence up one at the half.

In the Second half, the Polars continued to make attempts at the net, when they were finally able to crack the Pilots defense and score to tie the game at one a piece. The goal came from Tim Jaeger in the 65th minute. Both teams would try their best to break the tie before the end of regulation, but neither were successful. The score stayed at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes of game play. 

In overtime, it was Jaeger who was the hero for Crown once again, as he scored in the 94th minute of the match and gave the Polars the 2-1 lead. For the remaining fifteen minutes, the Pilots would fight hard to even up the game, but the defense of Crown stood strong and held off the attack. Crown would take the 2-1 victory and will play in the NCCAA National tournament beginning on November 15th in Florida.
