Women's Basketball Cruises to a Blowout Win Against the Sabercats

Hancock, MI -- The North Central University (NCU) Rams women's basketball team competed earlier today (Saturday 12/3) in Michigan against the opposing Maranatha Baptist Sabercats (MBU). The Rams bounced back from yesterday's disappointing loss with a dominating performance. North Central beat the Sabercats 93-40.

NCU had a great start to the afternoon, scoring 6 consecutive points to open up the first 2 1/2 minutes of action, before MBU could respond. In the first quarter alone, the Rams put up 29 total points and forced 11 MBU turnovers. The second quarter was much of the same. North Central's tenacity on the offensive boards gave themselves numerous opportunities to score, cashing in on 16 second chance points in the 1st half. Scorching hot from deep, NCU banged home 8 total 3-pointers, shooting at an efficient clip of 50% through 20 minutes of play. Maranatha struggled to find momentum as the Rams finished the half leading 58-20.

Early in the third quarter, NCU continued their hot hand with an 11-0 run. Multiple fast breaks and trips to the free-throw line stretched the lead even more. The Sabercats never stopped battling, but the offensive onslaught from the Rams was to much to overcome. NCU outscored the Sabercats 50-12 in points in the paint. Sophomore Kaitlyn VanderPloeg put up an impressive double-double performance and freshman Destiny Hines had a solid game off the bench for the Rams, sinking 3 three pointers in just 15 minutes played. NCU never once trailed in the contest, as they cruised to a 93-40 road victory.

Top Performers:
  • Kaitlyn VanderPloeg (Clear Lake, IA): 15 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks
