Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball prevail over the Yellowjackets

SUPERIOR, Wisc. -- The North Central University traveled to the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS), determined to keep the Yellowjackets below them in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) standings. The Rams overcame the Yellowjackets 70-56 with a dominant second half.

Game Recap

It was a back and forth opening minutes but the Rams were able to pull away about half way through the first half. NCU maintained around an eight point during the last ten minutes helped by out-rebounding the Yellowjackets 22-14. Furthermore, Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian School)'s offense added in putting the Rams ahead of UWS. Filer had 16 of the Ram's 36 first half points. NCU's pace and flow on the offensive end helped the ball fall into the net as they collective shot over 50% from the field. The combination of these things had the Ram's up 36-27 at halftime.

UWS tried to apply intense defensive pressure in the second half to regain the lead, but this backfired on the Yellowjackets as NCU dribbled and passed circles around this defense, turning their eight point into close to a 20 point lead. The Rams continued everything that was going well in the first half, rebounding, shooting percentage, and Filer's hot hand, and added onto it. Justin Castro (Kissimmee, FL, Gateway High School) and Jonathan Thompson (Kansas City, MO, Park Hill South High School) found the hoop in the second half as NCU's defense stepped up even more getting deflections and steals. The Rams rode out the waves of UWS and took the win 70-56.

  • Shooting over 60% from the field, Micah Filer scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
