MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- In the first round of the
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) post-season tournament, the North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team faced off against Northland College (NC). The Rams jumped on the Lumberjacks early to secured the playoff win 93-65.
Game Recap
The Rams went on an early 7-2 run and quickly established a lead that the Lumberjacks never overcame. NC played an intense man-to-man defense, applying heavy amounts of pressure to NCU's ball handlers. However, the pressure didn't phase the Rams and their offense as they shot 57% as a team from the field. Many of the NCU roster contributed to the score, including guards
Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian School) and
Justin Castro (Kissimmee, FL, Gateway High School). On the other end of the floor, the Rams made the Lumberjacks work for their points and forced eight first half turnovers. At the end of the twenty minutes, NCU got their lead to 14 with a score of 46-32.
The second half was very similar to the first as the Rams used their lead from the first half to fuel their momentum on offense and defense alike. NCU tightened up their defense and forced eight more Lumberjack turnovers. On offense, the Rams heated up from the three point line shooting 41% from deep.
Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, CO, The Vanguard School) and
Kayden Sund (Golden, CO) had a great offensive second half contributing to NCU's 28 point victory over NC.
The Rams move to 16-10 overall with the dominate playoff win.
