MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Back for round two, the North Central University (NCU) softball team competed in a double-header with Maranatha Baptist University (MBU). Already worn down from the previous day's games, the Sabercats fell short to the Rams once again as NCU brought home two more wins, 13-5 and 19-3.
Game One Recap
MBU started out strong scoring two runs in the first inning. However, the Rams responded in the best way with one run in the first and holding the Sabercats to zero runs in the second inning. NCU capitalized on the solid defensive effort by racking five runs just in the bottom of the second.
Isabella Gallardo (Austin, TX, ) slammed a pitch for a home run bringing in three runs. Soon after, another home run was hit this time by
Kali Kahalekomo (Muncie, IN, ) putting the Rams up 6-2. NCU scored twice more in the fourth inning after an uneventful third inning for both teams. The Sabercats had the inklings of a comeback in the fifth inning when they scored three runs. But the Rams pounced once again with five more runs after a double from both
Hosanna Gattle (Merrit Island, FL, ) and
Gallardo and a
Selma Carrasco (El Paso, TX, Mountain View High School) single. Catcher
Aurora Prettyman (Portland, OR, ) was active on home plate as she snagged six outs along with
Gattle on the mound who threw six strikeouts as NCU took the first game of the day 13-5.
Game Two Recap
MBU got three quick outs in the first inning, sending the Rams to the plate. NCU had two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the first as
Gattle stepped up to bat.
Gattle tripled down left field bringing in the Ram's first two scores. This action started a cascade of runs from NCU's batters as they scored a whopping 12 runs in the first inning. The Rams went through their whole batting order as each player made it home from a double from both
Prettyman and
Lily Adams (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake Area High School) and plenty of other hits. The second inning wasn't any different as
Carla Mendoza (Ridgecrest, CA, ),
Kahalekomo , and
Gattle each hit doubles bringing in four total runs. The game proceeded on with NCU on top and eventually winning their second game of the day 19-3.
The Rams complete the full sweep of the Sabercats on the weekend, beating MBU four times. NCU moves to 5-8 on the season.
Key Performers
- Isabella Gallardo was an offensive explosive today with five RBI's, a homerun, three hits, and three runs.
- Selma Carrasco went four for four from the plate recording two RBI's and two runs.
- Designated hitter Hosanna Gattle continued her offensive success in the second game going three of three from the plate with four RBI's, and three runs.
- Lily Adams also went three of three adding in three RBI's, and one run. She also recorded four outs at first base.
