ST. PAUL, Minn. -- After a successful weekend, the North Central University (NCU) baseball team looked to use that momentum as
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) began with a matchup against the University of Northwestern (UNW). The Eagles took down the Rams with a final score of 28-2.
Game Recap
UNW quickly found their groove in the first inning when they scored 13 unanswered runs. However, the Rams buckled down at the top of the second inning as pitcher
Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ, Amphitheater High school) struck out the first two Eagle hitters followed by another out at first base. But UNW's offense refocused in the third and fourth innings recording another 11 runs in the two innings combined. The Rams finally got on the board at the bottom of the fourth inning as
Noah Block (Greendale, WI, Greendale Senior High School) singled to center field bringing in
Kristian Garcia (Las Vegas, LV, Palo Verde High School). The last three innings were less eventful than the first five with only two runs scored between the teams. NCU held the Eagles scoreless in the sixth and seventh inning with two more strikes thrown by
Daniel Montana (Tucson, AZ, Cienega High School) and excellent fielding from shortstop
Matthew Oakley (Concord, NC, International Christian School of Budapest). The Rams ended the game in style off a homerun from
Kyle Huerth (Moorpark, CA, Moorpark High School), his first of the season. In the end, UNW stole the game from NCU with a final score of 28-2.
