MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) softball team is thankful for a dome to play in on a snowy spring Minnesota day like today as they face the Auggies out of Augsburg University (AU). The Auggies took both games in a competitive matchup between the team games with scores of 3-0 and 9-6.
Game One Recap
It was an all-around good fielding day for each team with only two errors recorded in seven innings. The first two innings were quite quick and quiet as neither team were able to find home plate. The Auggies managed to get on base twice, once in the first inning and again in the second, but were quickly removed as the Rams snagged the three outs. AU got on the scoreboard after a triple turned into a run at the bottom of the third inning. NCU saw their first action on base in the fifth inning when
Kali Kahalekomo (Muncie, IN, ) reached first off of a fielding error by the Auggie's shortstop. However, the Rams continued to struggle at bat and were unable to connect with the ball or get on base the rest of the game, except for a walk in the seventh inning. AU had their best hitting inning at the bottom of sixth recording two more runs, winning the game with a final score of 3-0.
Game Two Recap
AU notched a run early in the first inning of the game after the Rams had a quick three and out at the top of the first. However, NCU got on the board in the second after
Selma Carrasco (El Paso, TX, Mountain View High School) tagged up to bring the Rams their first run of the day. NCU really found their offensive rhythm in the third inning.
Aurora Prettyman (Portland, OR, ) scored off of a single from
Emma Cochran (Chewelah, WA, ) followed by two more runs from
Katelynn Fox (Hedesville, WV, ) and
Cochran. The fourth inning was a quiet affair with the Rams up by one run.
Delaney Riddle (Lake Stevens, WA, ) doubled to right field in the fifth inning and was brought home by another double, this time from
Kahalekomo . The Auggies had a surge of offensive in the fifth and sixth that ultimately won them the game.
Lily Adams (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake Area High School) singled to center field to bring in
Kahalekomo for another NCU run, but the previously scores from AU was too much for the Rams to overcome late in the game as the Auggies won 9-6.
