MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) baseball team opened up their season inside the U.S. Bank Stadium with a double header against Augsburg University (AU). The Rams dropped both games to the Auggies, first with a score of 9-0 followed by a second game score of 9-0.
Game One Recap
The opening two innings were a standstill, as both teams felt out a new opponent, and a new stadium. AU found a little bit of a rhythm in the third inning bringing two players in and found even more of a rhythm in the fourth as they scored five more runs. The Rams, while able to get on base multiple times, were unable to cross home plate.
Teyghan Hovland (Austin, MN, Austin High School),
Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ, Amphitheater High school), and
Kyle Huerth (Moorpark, CA, Moorpark High School) found themselves at third base in three seperate innings, but the Auggies cut the Ram's run short with a third out. Catcher
Encinas saw a lot of defensive action in the game recording eight outs, over a third of NCU's outs.
Christian Rodriguez (Tuscon, AZ, Catalina Foothills High School), the starting pitcher for NCU, struck out five AU batters in the 9-0 loss.
Game Two Recap
The Auggies continued their offensive success with an explosive first inning as they scored seven runs. Before these runs, Hovland did get to third in the top of the first unable to convert it into a run. The second was quite quick, but the third ran a little longer as AU ran across home plate twice more ramping the score to 9-0. Again in the fourth inning, the Rams made it to third, this time by the skill of
Jack Parker (Bordentown, NJ, Bordentown Regional High School), and again fell short of the run. The last three innings were relatively fast as both teams struggle to get on base. Pitcher
Kristian Garcia (Las Vegas, LV, Palo Verde High School) helped with this as he through three strike outs along with first baseman
Daniel Montana (Tucson, AZ, Cienega High School) who recorded four outs in the game.
