Rams win in close-call with the Knights

NEW ULM, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) baseball team traveled up to Martin Luther College (MLC) for an afternoon Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) event. The Friday matchup was exciting as the Rams scored in the final inning to take the game from the Knights, 3-2.

Game Recap

Tanner Oka recorded the first out for NCU off a strikeout in the first inning. The Rams quickly snagged two more outs to the end the inning. NCU's Christian Rodriguez (Tuscon, AZ, Catalina Foothills High School) opened up the second inning with a home run to right field. However, this was all the Rams were able to do at the plate. The bottom of the second and the third inning as a whole were uneventful for both team's offenses. Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ, Amphitheater High school) doubled to right field to start the fourth inning and was brought home off a hit by Matthew Oakley (Concord, NC, International Christian School of Budapest). It was then the Knights turn to score, adding in one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie up the game. Innings six, seven, and eight saw lock down defenses from both teams, not allowing a single run. To start the ninth inning, Rodriguez was walked earning him a spot on base. Following this, Kristian Garcia (Las Vegas, LV, Palo Verde High School) doubled to right field to bring in Rodriguez for the winning run. NCU held MLC in the bottom of the nine scoreless with a ground out, a strikeout from Jack Parker (Bordentown, NJ, Bordentown Regional High School), and a fly out to center fielder Kyle Huerth (Moorpark, CA, Moorpark High School).

The Rams move to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.
