Game Recap: Softball |

The Rams fall to the Yellowjackets in indoor doubleheader

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) softball team moved their doubleheader with the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) inside in anticipation of the rain. The Yellowjackets connected with the ball numerous times in the two game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup and added two more wins to their record with scores of 21-0 and 9-0.

Game One Recap

At third base, Brooke McGlinchey (Belle Plaine, MN) snagged two of the first three outs for the Rams in the top of the first inning, only allowing one run from the Yellowjackets. NCU did not have a chance to add to their own score as UWS grabbed three swift outs. The second inning brought even more success for the Yellowjackets as they scored nine runs. UWS added on six more runs in the third inning. The Rams found a bit of luck in the bottom of the third inning as they were able to advance on base due to a couple of errors from the Yellowjackets. However, UWS recorded three outs before NCU was able to cross home plate. The fourth inning brought in five more runs for the Yellowjackets, but the Rams held UWS scoreless in the fifth inning with a strikeout from pitcher Sydney Harmon (Meno, OK), a out by shortstop Nichelle Henderson (Brooklyn Park, MN, Park Center High School), and another out from McGlinchey at third base.

Game Two Recap

UWS got off to another great start as they opened up the second game with three runs. The Rams tightened up their defense going into the second inning only allowing one run. McGlinchey, now at second, secured an out for NCU along with center fielder Isabella Gallardo (Austin, TX) and Delaney Riddle (Lake Stevens, WA) at third base. At the top of the third inning, the Rams stopped the Yellowjackets first with a double play combing the skills of Hosanna Gattle (Merrit Island, FL), Kali Kahalekomo (Muncie, IN), and Harmon. And to end the inning, Gattle struck out a swinging UWS batter. This fielding followed NCU into the fourth inning also as they picked up another three quick outs. However, the Yellowjackets did get back into the swing of things in the fifth inning, scoring a final five runs.

Key Performers
  • Sydney Harmon had a total of 11 outs at first base, six in the first game and five in the second.
  • Pitching the second game, Hosanna Gattle threw three strikeouts.

Looking Ahead

The Rams travel a state over to the east for a NCCAA matchup against Maranatha Baptist University (MBU). Earlier in the season, NCU swept MBU in a four-game stint.
