MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Back for day two of the
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) crossover, the North Central University (NCU) softball team first took on the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) and lost 12-4 Following this matchup, the Rams faced Northland College (NC) winning 4-3.
Game One Recap
The Rams started off the game really strong as
Delaney Riddle (Lake Stevens, WA) hit a homerun to bring in
Emma Cochran (Chewelah, WA) for two runs. The Yellowjackets responded by scoring two runs off their own in the bottom of the first inning. NCU didn't have as much luck in the next three innings but UWS kept up their hitting. The Yellowjackets scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third. UWS really found their rhythm in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring seven runs.
Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School) at first base,
Brooke McGlinchey (Belle Plaine, MN) at second, and
Catherine SanMiguel (San Antonio, TX, Kaiserslautern High School) on the mound all contributed in stopping the Yellowjackets in their final at bat. The Rams rallied in the fifth inning to score two runs.
Riddle doubled to left field allowing
Cochran and
McGlinchey to score. However, NCU couldn't get enough runs on the board to overcome UWS.
Game Two Recap
NCU held off the Lumberjills in the first inning quickly securing three outs, two grounders to pitcher
Hosanna Gattle (Merrit Island, FL) and one to shortstop
Kali Kahalekomo (Muncie, IN). In turn, the Rams scored following this display of infielding off a single to center field from
Gattle bringing in
Riddle. The second and third innings were almost identical to the first in which NC had a short time at bat and NCU added runs to their score.
Cochran doubled to center field as
DeJong crossed the home plate.
Gattle doubled this time to bring in
Sydney Harmon (Meno, OK) and
Gattle scored off a hit to center field. The fourth and fifth innings saw no action from either team and the Rams remained on top 4-0. However, the Lumberjills started to heat up as they scored two runs in the sixth inning and held NCU scoreless in the sixth. NC also scored one run in the seventh inning putting them down by only one run. The Rams buckled down and secure the win with a pop up to
Kahalekomo at shortstop and an out at second base.
Key Performers
- In the first matchup, Delaney Riddle recorded all 4 RBI's for the Rams and scored one run herself.
- Pitcher Hosanna Gattle added in two RBI's and one run in the Lumberjill matchup.
- Going two for three from the plate, Emma Cochran tallied one RBI in the second game.
Looking Ahead
The Rams finally get a break, although a short one, playing a doubleheader with Martin Luther College Tuesday, Apr. 26, at 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on their home field. All fans are encouraged to tune into official Rams
