SUPERIOR, Wisc. -- The North Central University (NCU) baseball team took the road to the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) for one of their last
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchups and one of their last matchups of the season. The Yellowjackets won both games in the doubleheader with scores of 10-0 and 24-0.
Game One Recap
NCU struggled all game to reach any of the bases. UWS's pitching left many Rams out at home plate and the fielding by the Yellowjackets stopped NCU more getting on base. The Rams found a little action in the fourth inning when
Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ, Amphitheater High school) singled to left field followed by a single to right field hit by
Christian Rodriguez (Tuscon, AZ, Catalina Foothills High School). NCU was unable to convert these hits to runs but UWS found their way to home plate three times in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. The next time the Rams reached first base was in the seventh inning off of a single by
Jack Parker (Bordentown, NJ, Bordentown Regional High School).
Tanner Oka (Mililani, HI, Hanalani School)Â and
Matthew Oakley (Concord, NC, International Christian School of Budapest) also found themselves on base in the seventh inning but again were unable to score of these hits. The Yellowjackets scored once more to beat the NCU 10-0.
Game Two Recap
Encinas got the offense going initially for the Rams with a single through the right side. However, that was the only action NCU saw on offense for most of the game. UWS came out swinging to score six runs in the first inning. The Rams held off any more runs in the second inning from the Yellowjackets as second baseman
Chris Garza snagged two outs in the inning. UWS scored three more runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to bring the score up 11-0. NCU secured a double play in the fifth inning when shortstop
Oakley picked up a grounder, threw it to
Garza at second base who threw it to Parker at first. The Rams held UWS scoreless in this inning as well.
Encinas,
Parker, and
Garza reached a base in the sixth inning but it was the Yellowjackets who dominated this inning as they brought in 13 runs. This scoring stint helped push UWS past NCU for the second time of the day.
The Rams fall to 6-12 on the season and 3-9 in the conference with just a few games left.
