Box Score Minneapolis, MN - Men's Soccer wins in a thriller in their homecoming matchup against the University of Northwestern, winning the contest with a 1-0 final score. Great defense and some second-half heroics led the Rams to victory.
The game was tough fought by both sides and remained 0-0 through the first half of the game. Good defense was the story of the game with only three shots on goal for the Eagles and five for the Rams. In the second half, the Rams came out looking to take some momentum. They put tons of pressure on the Eagles which led to the game-winning goal off the foot of last year's leading goal for the Rams,
Elliott Lebsack (Kearney, NE)Â in the 63rd minute.Â
Off of the Ram's corner kick, the ball was tapped out by
Weston Buckley (Budapest, HU) on a dime for Elliott, who has dealt with injuries this season and has been playing limited minutes, to fire home his first tally of the season. The Rams continued to put pressure on for the next few minutes but were unable to put up a second tally.
The Eagles responded well to adversity as they were able to change the momentum in the game as the ball was on the Ram's end of the field for a large chunk of the remainder of the game. Goalkeeper
Jerad Buse (Kearney, NE) and the rest of the Ram's defense were able to hold off the Eagle's efforts, as Jerad was able to stop all ten shots he faced in the contest.
Looking Ahead:
The Rams take on the University of Minnesota Morris next Thursday (9/22) here at home.
