Rams Take a Close Win Over Superior

Box Score Superior, WI — Continuing their journey on the road, the North Central University (NCU) Rams faced the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets and came out victorious after a battle right up to the buzzer. This competition was action packed from the start, and the Rams did everything in their power to keep the ball in their hands. With eleven lead changes throughout the contest, NCU secured yet another win under their belt with a score of 67-63.

With a tight game right away, both teams were aggressive in trying to keep the ball from each other, and spent the majority of the first half within a three point difference. Bringing his defense to the court, Cameron Thomas had five rebounds, three of which were in the first five minutes. Working to keep ahead for most of the first half, the Yellowjackets started pulling ahead with only seven minutes on the clock. UWS would go up by as much as eight late in the half. But after a 5-0 run to end the half, the Rams went to the locker room for an intermission with the score at 31-28, Superior in the lead.

Coming back with more energy and strategy, Caden Freetly sunk a three pointer out of the gates that brought the Rams score back up to a tie. It wasn't until minute 16:00 that there seemed to be a break from the back and forth fight for the lead as the Yellowjackets seemed to have more control of the court. With the Rams finding themselves in foul trouble, the men and were absolutely determined to prevail. Zach Kjeseth and Micah Filer, sensing the clock winding down, were able to get multiple buckets to comeback and exceed the Yellowjacks on the scoreboard. With just over two minutes remaining, the Rams only held a one point lead. A big bucket from Tanner Holtman from deep gave the Rams the two possession lead. Followed by a jump shot make by Filer, NCU took a six point lead at 63-57 with just over a minute left. UWS would not let up however as they brought the score back to a two point game with nine seconds left. After getting followed, Kjeseth would go to the line for the Rams with the chance to ice the game in the one-and-one opportunity. Kjeseth sank both shots, giving the Rams the two possession lead they needed to secure the win. Leaving all their sweat and hard work on the court, the Rams displayed incredible defense and teamwork against UWS, and finished with an exhausting win of 67-63.
