Esports Goes 3-2 on the Week

10/9/2023 10:16:00 AM

Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University (NCU) esports had another good week overall. On Monday, Rocket League would suffer its first loss of the season against Anna Maria College (AMC), as they were able to win game one but would find themselves double committing positions in games two through four. Also on Monday, NCU Super Smash won their open match 2-0, going up three stocks in the first game and eight in the second. Wednesday, Valorant would take down Western Kentucky 2-1 to continue their win streak. On Thursday, Super Smash lost to Truman State 2-0 by 4 and 3 stocks. The JV match versus Concordia Moorhead resulted in a forfeit win for NCU. Finally, on Saturday the Fortnite team did not have enough eliminations to sucre a placement in the NACE Split 1 Championship.

Rocket League vs Anna Maria College (3-1 Defeat) - FULL RESULTS

Game 1: NCU - 1   AMC - 3
NCU would start by scoring the opening goal. With less than two minutes left, AMC would score two goals of their own. The Rams would keep their composure scoring two more goals in the last 30 seconds, securing their only win of the night.
Game 2: NCU - 1   AMC - 2
Again NCU would score the first goal of the game, but Anna Maria would respond with two goals in rapid succession. Unable to break through the Amcat's defense, NCU would lose game 2.
Game 3: NCU - 2   AMC - 3
For the first time in the series, AMC would open the game with a goal. NCU responded quickly with two goals of their own. With time running out AMC was able to rally by scoring two goals making the series 2-1.
Game 4: NCU - 2   AMC - 3
North Central would enter game 4 emotions high with the series on the line. NCU would find a glimmer of hope once again with Headley earning the opening goal. The hope would not last long as AMC would score 3 goals in the next minute. Andre "blvyze" Muteba would then score his only goal of the series. Anna Maria would shut down the Ram's offense securing the series.

Super Smash vs Oral Roberts University (2-0 Victory)
  • Phillip "wtrPHILter" Graham took the most stocks, claiming eleven souls while only losing three of his own stocks, no more than one to any opponent.
  • Todd "lucid" Holloway II took six stocks off of three players despite only playing during the first game, single-handedly turning the tide of our first match.
  • Jameson "jamo" Hawn took five stocks across both games, coming up even in the first game to maintain our lead and finishing out the opposing team's final two stocks while only giving up one of his own in the second game.
  • Rydon "RjFx4" Foldhazi took the opening two stocks in the first game of the match.

Valorant vs Western Kentucky University (2-1 Victory) - FULL RESULTS

Game 1 - Breeze: NCU - 4   WKU - 13
  • With NCU starting on offense they would find it difficult to gain and maintain much needed space to secure plants. The offensive half would finish NCU only securing 3 rounds to WKU's 9.
  • On defense, NCU would struggle with weak positioning only able to grab 1 more round before ultimately losing.

Game 2 - Haven: NCU - 13   WKU - 11
  • A much needed break between games would allow NCU to gain the composure they needed to tie the series.
  • The Rams would again start offense where they would lose their opening round due to a communication error that led to a delay in planting the spike.
  • After losing the second round to superior firepower, North Central would respond strongly winning 8 rounds on offense allowing them to go into the second half 8-4.
  • On defense, NCU would keep the momentum going winning the first 3 rounds. Despite finding themselves at match point early, they would allow WKU a creep back into the game before sealing the deal 13-11.
  • Alliyah "Allegiance" Lee would have an 83% Kill Assist Trade percentage in this second game.

Game 3 - Ascent: NCU 13   WKU - 9
  • For the first time in the series, the Rams would win the opening round of the game playing a dynamic offense and securing a 7-5 offensive half.
  • Defense started with NCU securing both the pistol and buy-up rounds. WKU would win four more rounds but it wouldn't be enough to stop NCU who would come out as the victor 13-9.
  • Watch the winning moment from the team's perspective here.
  • William "Grif" Chappel would secure NCU's only ACS above 300 in this map leading the squad with a KDA of 24/18/5 on Jett.

Super Smash vs Truman State University (2-0 Defeat)
  • Rydon "RjFx4" Foldhazi came out better than last week, going up second in the first game and finishing off their Mewtwo and injuring their Ken, then taking all three stock off their Samus at the start of the next game, but losing out without taking any to the Ken, taking seven stocks in all.
  • Phillip "wtrPHILter" Graham played the anchor both games, putting up valiant fights against the best the opposing team had to throw at him, taking four stocks in all despite only ever going in when we were down at least three stocks.
  • Todd "lucid" Holloway II took three stocks between the two games, only dropping stocks to some of his hardest matches and still fighting tooth and nail, making every stock he lost go down to the last hit.
  • Jameson "jamo" Hawn also took three stocks between the two games, where he lost each and every one of his own stocks to the opposing Mewtwo, forming a new arch rival. He made a sick play against one of our toughest opponents, their Ken, by finishing him off without even getting to kill percent.

Fortnite - NACE Split 1 Championship

NCU had one duo comprised of Andre "blyze" Muteba and Eric "Hniballer" Grabill qualify to compete in this weekend's NACE Split 1 Championship. While the team is awaiting official placements, NCU struggled against the strength of the competition and was unable to secure eliminations or placements that would earn points.
