Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

NCU Falls 66-49 to UW-River Falls at Home

Minneapolis, MN -- Tonight, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team hosted the Falcons from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) for game one of a four-game homestand. North Central came into this game off a dominating 55-point win over Grace Christian a little over a week ago. The Rams would also get key players back to health in Caitlyn Ryan and Kayla Hola. However, the Falcons came to play and would prove to be too much for NCU as River Falls would win 66-49.

River Falls would strike first in this one after sinking a 3-pointer on their first possession of the game. The Rams would get on the board thanks to a free throw by Kayla Hola. With the score at 5-1, the Falcons would go on a 9-0 run as they gained a 14-1 lead. NCU would struggle with ball control as they would turn the ball over 12 times in the 1st quarter. UWRF would stay out in front for the rest of the quarter as they went into the second with a 21-10 lead over North Central. In the second quarter, NCU would strike back thanks to a layup by Caitlin Ryan and a mid-range jumper from Kaitlyn VanderPloeg to make the score 21-14 still in favor of UW-River Falls. The Rams would start to claw themselves back into the game as they lessened the Falcons' lead to 7 with 7:23 to go in the half. UWRF would head into halftime with a 34-24 lead over NCU.

To start the second half, the teams would trade buckets back and forth. However, the Falcons would start to pull away as they tallied 22 points and increased their lead to 21. They went into the fourth and final quarter with a 56-35 lead over the Rams. River Falls would keep their foot on the gas as they would extend their lead to a game-high of 27 points with 7 minutes to play. North Central would show no quit as they closed out the half 12-2. NCU would suffer the 66-49 loss to the Falcons.
