Stevens Point, WI -- Today, the North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team traveled to Stevens Point for a non-conference matchup versus the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Pointers. In a game where NCU shot the ball more efficiently at all three levels, The Rams would be down just three at halftime, but the Pointers would pull away to win this one 76-67. Senior guard Tanner Holtman led the NCU offense shooting 5-7 from three and scoring 22 points total.
In the first, the game would go back and forth early. NCU would gain their first lead with the score 6-5 as Nike Feller would sink a three. However, that lead would be short-lived as UWSP would retake the advantage off a layup to make the score 7-6 in their favor. Once in front, the Pointers would keep a consistent lead throughout the first with their biggest being just 7 points. Holtman would get fouled with seconds left in the half and would sink both free throws to put North Central within three points of Stevens Point. Ultimately, the Pointers would go into halftime with a 37-34 lead over the Rams. Tanner Holtman led all scorers with 15 points within the first half.
Looking to extend their lead, the Pointers would get to work right away in the second. They opened things up scoring 7 unanswered points. Ja'Shon Simpson would interrupt the UWSP run with a layup in the paint and a three-pointer to pull the Rams within five. Feller would eventually get fouled and make both free throws to make the score 52-46 still in favor of Stevens Point. A two-point jumper by Feller, a three by Jack Courneya, a layup by Remy Wedgeworth-Brown, and a three by Cameron Thomas would give the Rams their first lead of the half at 56-55 with 9:24 remaining. After a UWSP timeout, the Pointers would answer right back in a big way, scoring 12 unanswered points to gain a 67-57 lead over North Central. NCU would be unable to crawl back into this one, as Stevens Point would go on to win by a score of 76-67.
