Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball completes the season sweep over Wisconsin-Superior

Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University (NCU) men's basketball started their weekend off with a huge win over Wisconsin-Superior at home. After stealing the first game from Superior on the road earlier this season, the men of North Central were able to complete the sweep Friday night (2/10). The final score of the contest would end in a thrilling 80-76 victory.

As the first half began, both teams fought hard to get to the bucket. Defensively, both squads stood strong in the low scoring first five minutes. The Yellow-Jackets were able to get the first separation of the game as they were to score on three straight possessions bringing the score to 10-16 with ten minutes remaining in the first half. NCU would fight back as Micah Filer started the offensive streak for the Rams, smacking home a 3-point bucket followed by a nice mid-range jumper. The Rams would continue to shoot well, leading to a strong comeback effort to bring the score back to 27-27 with just over four minutes remaining in the half. It was Superior that was able to go on the last run of the half, however, going up five as the buzzer sounded, with the score sitting at 37-32.

Coming out of the locker room, Superior came out with some aggressive defense that lead to key turnovers and a quick four points, extending their lead to nine. NCU would bounce back quickly, with back-to-back three-point baskets from Caden Freetly and Tanner Holtman. Another bucket from Filer would complete a quick 8-0 run bringing the Rams back within one. For the next ten minutes of gameplay, both teams would score in streaks. Superior would continue to jump to a two-possession lead, and the Blue and Gold would respond and tie the game. It wasn't until there was just over five minutes remaining that the Rams were able to finally take the lead in the second half. Strong shooting from Holtman and Filer kept the Rams out front heading into the final two minutes. NCU held a four-point leading heading into the final minute. Superior drove to the rim to be denied by a strong team block. As the Rams hurried down the court, CJ Thomas was fouled and sent to the line. Thomas was able to sink one from the line extending the lead to 5 with just 33 seconds remaining. NCU was able to remain tough defensively and hold on for the win, 80-76.
