Mankato, MN -- North Central University's (NCU) Softball team got their season under this Sunday (2/19). The team would head to the Mankato Dome for back-to-back games against Saint Mary's and Macalester. It was a tough first outing for the squad, as the final scores of the games were 1-13 and 0-19 respectively.
Game 1 Recap
In the first game against Saint Mary's, the Rams got down early, giving up 8 runs in just the top of the 1st inning. Things wouldn't get much better as the Cardinals were able to post another 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. NCU's defense would eventually find its footing, as they wouldn't give up a run for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately, it would be too little, too late for the Rams. In an effort to come back,
Maci Tripp would get the action started but hitting a single in the bottom of the 4th inning for her first collegiate hit.
Delaney Riddle would follow behind her in hitting a triple to get the Rams on the board for the first time this season. That would be where the scoring would end, and the final would sit at 1-13 after 5 innings.
Game 2 Recap
NCU was right back in action to take on the Macalester Scots. NCU would start at the plate in this one, but they had no success to start the game. The Scots would follow up by scoring 1 in the bottom of the first to take the 0-1 lead. After that, things got a bit ugly for the Rams. Macalester would follow up with 7, 2, and 9 run innings. NCU would remain scoreless for the entirety of the game.
Lindsey DeJong would finish the game with the only hit for the Rams. The final would end in a score of 0-19.
Looking Ahead:
