Saint Paul, MN -- North Central University's (NCU) Baseball team had a double-header today versus two separate conference opponents. Both games would take place at the University of Northwestern's (UNW) Reynolds Field as Wintercrest Park still remains unable to play due to weather. In the first game, NCU would be the home team against Northwestern. Later on that evening, North Central would be the home team versus the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) to finish that series that took place last weekend.
Game one:
Teagan Burch would get the start on the mound for the Rams. Northwestern would score two in the first and three in the second while holding NCU to zeros in the bottom half of both innings. UNW would add one more in the top of the third making the score 6-0. It was in the bottom of the third when
Christian Rodriguez hit a solo home run to get the Rams on the board.
Nicolas Sheley would come in to pitch in the 4th inning, where he would take down the UNW lineup.
Sheley would hold the Eagles to no runs through the next 3 innings. Meanwhile NCU would claw their way back into the game with a big three-run 4th inning followed by one run in both the fifth and the sixth. With the score tied at 6-6 going into the seventh. UNW would finally get some success going off of
Sheley, scoring one run in the top half of the inning. North Central would respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning off of an RBI hit from
Burch who continued to stay hot at the plate. Both squads would hold the other off the scoreboard in the last two innings, bringing the game to extras. After getting two quick outs, UNW would string together multiple great at bats, leading to a huge 6 run top of the 10th. NCU couldn't respond, leading to a final score of 13-7 in favor of the Eagles.
Game two:
Michael Newsome would get the start for the Rams to begin game two. UMM would get some early success in the top of the first. With one guy on and two outs, the Cougars would hit back-to-back home runs to give themselves the early 3-0 lead. In the top of the 2nd,
Tanner Oka would come in to take the mound after a
Michael Newsome injury. UMM would add another six runs over the course of the next three innings while NCU was slow to get anything going, putting the score at 9-0 heading into the 5th inning. North Central would finally get going in the bottom of the 5th when
Daniel Montana would hit a two-run home run.
Tim Yohan Dixon would then take over on the mound and get a big 0 spot against the Cougars in the top of the sixth. The Rams would strike again in the bottom of the sixth for one more run putting the score at 9-3. It was the top of the seventh where the Cougars would put the game away with a 5 run inning. NCU needed to score two in the bottom half of the inning to keep things going but were unable to do so, leading to the final score, 14-3.
