Softball Drops Both in Doubleheader With the Yellowjackets

Roseville, MN -- The North Central University (NCU) Rams Softball squad faced off with UMAC opponent UW-Superior (UWS) in a neutral site doubleheader early today. Starting off game one strong, the Rams held a 4-2 lead after the first inning. This hot start however would eventually cool off as the Yellowjackets from Superior would wake up the bats, tallying 14 total runs and securing the 16-4 victory. Momentum would also carry UWS to a game two 15-2 win over North Central.

Game 1 Recap:

Carla Mendoza would start game one on the mound for North Central. Pitching struggles would haunt UWS early as NCU would be walked 5 times at the top of the first. Sophie Anderson would record the only hit from the Rams in the first with a blast to left field, bringing in one run. Leading 4-0 after the top of the first, the Rams would look to keep the momentum. North Central would only surrender 2 runs to the Yellowjackets in the bottom of the inning. Unfortunately, the Rams' momentum would be stunted as UW-Superior would manage to get out the first three batters in the top of the second. From there, the Yellowjackets ramped up their level of play, putting up 4 more runs in the second, leaving the score at 6-4. In the third inning, UWS would put up 7 runs on 5 hits and 4 NCU errors. Superior would tack on another 3 more runs before it was all said and done. A single in the fifth inning from catcher Aurora Prettyman would be the only other hit for the Rams in this one. The Yellowjackets went on to take Game 1 with a score of 16-4.

Game 2 Recap:

Mendoza started game two also and it was more of the same for the Rams' offense. NCU would struggle to wake up the bats and would go 1,2,3 to end the top of the first inning. UW-Superior would waste no time getting points on the board, as they would hit an impressive 5 doubles and score a whopping 12 runs in the first inning. North Central's struggles at the plate would continue as they would 1,2,3 in the next two innings. Meanwhile, UWS would stretch the lead to 14-0 going into the top of the fourth. Delaney Riddle and Prettyman would both post an RBI to send two runs in for the Rams. The deficient sitting at 15-2 going into the top of the fifth inning, NCU would need a major rally in order to get back in it. unfortunately, they were unable to do so and the Yellowjackets would walk away with the 15-2 win.

Key Performers:

  • Delaney Riddle (Lake Stevens, WA) would score 1 run and have 1 RBI on the day.
  • Aurora Prettyman (Portland, OR) tallied 2 RBI's and scored 1 run on the day.

Looking Ahead:

NCU Softball will play next on Friday (4/14) versus Martin Luther starting at 10AM.
