Rams Lose Two Games in UMAC Crossover

Morris, MN -- NCU Softball finished up their play in the UMAC crossover. They played against Crown College (Polars) in game one, and The University of Northwestern (Eagles) in game two. The Rams would lose both games but would have bright spots in each of the games. 

Game 1 Recap:

Carla Mendoza was back on the mound today in game one. The Polars would jump on her quickly and score nine runs in the first two innings. In the top of the third, Angela Orozco would reach on an error and Maci Tripp would hit a single and put runners on first and second. Delaney Riddle would hit a single to center field, scoring Orozco and giving the Rams their first run of the day. The Rams wouldn't get a baserunner until the fifth inning when Orozco and Tripp got on with a hit and a walk. Riddle would hit a double to right field and both runners would score on the hit. Crown would win the game 16-3 after getting the last out of the inning. The game ended in five innings.

Game 2 Recap:

Katrina Diaz went to the mound for game two for the Rams and Northwestern piled on the runs quickly. They scored ten runs in their half of the inning. In the bottom of the first, Tripp would single, and Riddle would hit a home run, cutting the lead to eight. The Eagles scored 12 more runs in the second, shutting down any rally that was brewing. They would continue to score runs and would end up putting on 28 by the end of the fourth. Riddle would start the inning off with her second home run of the game. Aurora Prettyman would single and Mendoza would hit her in with a triple. The Rams would get one more run in the inning with a fielder's choice from Charley Kastl. Tripp would get her second hit of the day, being a double. Riddle followed with a single. Prettyman singled scoring the final run for NCU. Northwestern would win the game 28-6.

Key Performers:

  • Delaney Riddle (Lake Stevens, WA) went 5-6 with two home runs, a double, and six RBIs.
  • Maci Tripp (Waupaca, WI) 4-5 with a double, scoring three runs.
  • Aurora Prettyman (Portland, OR) went 3-6 with an RBI.

Looking Ahead:

North Central's Softball will travel to New Ulm and battle against the Martin Luther Knights in a doubleheader on Tuesday, the first pitch is at 3:30 PM.
