Ankeny, IA -- North Central University (NCU) volleyball enters day two of the Faith Baptist Invite following a 1-1 performance yesterday. The Rams would battle the Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) Sabercats in their game one matchup. To close out the tournament, North Central would play the home team Faith Baptist Bible College (FBBC) Eagles, who the Rams took down 3-1 earlier this month. NCU Volleyball walked away victorious earning the 3-1 win over MBU and 3-2 come-from-behind win over FBBC.
Game One Recap:
North Central would control much of set one, winning the set 25-16. NCU freshman
Sydney Carlson (Blaine, MN) would dominate set one with 6 kills, However, the Sabercats would not rollover, bouncing back and winning the second set to tie the match at 1-1. NCU would commit 10 errors in the set, giving away too many free points to the opposition. The Rams would respond in a big way, tallying 17 kills and reducing their errors to just 2 to take set three. Senior captain
Hailey Lerfald (Wanamingo, MN) was a problem in set three, racking up 9 kills to lead the Rams. North Central carried their momentum into the following set, winning 25-22 and seeling the 3-1 victory over Maranatha Baptist. Leading the Rams' offensive attack was senior setter
Grace Brigson (West Salem, WI) with a career-high 37 total assists.
Carlson showed her versatility today recording 16 kills and 17 digs.
Game Two Recap:
NCU would play well in its first set versus the Eagles, starting on the right foot with the 25-21 set win. The Rams would rack up 17 kills in the set. Despite the good start, the Eagles battled in sets two and three, winning both with scores of 25-22 and 25-23. Crucial errors by the Blue and Gold late in either set would be the deciding factor. Trailing 2-1, The Rams would clean up some of those mistakes and put together a solid 25-17 set-four performance to force a deciding set. NCU would dominate the final set, led by strong offensive play from freshman
Lola Huhta (Chisholm, MN) with 4 kills (13 total). Senior captains
Hailey Lerfald and
Grace Brigson would play exceptionally well tonight.
Lerfald totaled a career-high 22 kills and 9 blocks, while
Brigson tallied 36 assists and a career-high 5 blocks. North Central takes down Faith Baptist 3-2.
