Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

NCU Gets the Commanding 91-36 Home Win Over the Lumberjills

Minneapolis, MN -- Tonight, The North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team faced off with the Northland College Lumberjills for the first time this season. This game would be a make-up game in place of the previously postponed matchup from earlier this month. Tonight, North Central took care of business as 14 different Rams scored in the 91-36 win over the Lumberjills.

The game would not start as planned, as the Rams came out a little flat allowing the Lumberjills to lead 4-0 early. As NCU's play ramped up, Northland would keep up offensively to hold a lead through the first five minutes. Eventually, a three-point strike from freshman NiNI Davenport would spark a 9-0 to give the Rams a 16-10 lead with 2:15 left in the first quarter. The quarter would end with NCU holding on to a narrow 18-13 lead.

North Central came out of the break with more aggression as they opened the second quarter by scoring 10 unanswered. A single bucket by the Lumberjills would interrupt the scoring run temporarily, but the Rams followed that up with an 11-point run. Threes by Davenport and Mia Mabanag, and an emphatic and-one play from Ann Smith would fuel this run. NCU stretched their lead all the way to 29 points, sending the game to halftime with the score 48-19.

Caitlyn Ryan kicked off the second half scoring with a layup on the Rams' first possession. Ann Smith and NiNi Davenport both converted and-one plays to help NCU expand its lead. The Rams continued to pour it on in the third quarter, as North Central went on multiple scoring runs to lead to a 29-point quarter and a 77-31 lead.

The fourth quarter was much of the same, as the Rams scored 8 straight coming out. North Central played a very unselfish brand of basketball throughout, as the team tallied 19 assists on the night. Newcomer NiNi Davenport would finish with 4 made threes to push her season total to a team-high 37 makes. With the 91-36 win over Northland, Rams Women's Basketball moves to 5-2 in conference play
