St. Paul, MN -- The North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team resumed Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play today for a matchup against the Eagles from the University of Northwestern (UNW). The Rams head into this game tied for first in the UMAC and would look to extend their conference record to 3-0. However, the reigning UMAC champions would be too much for NCU as the Eagles would come out on top by a score of 90-54, dropping the Rams to 2-1 in conference play.
NCU would get on the board first through a layup from Caitlyn Ryan. Joelle Talso and Kayla Hola would also each have layups in the early minutes of this game to give the Rams a 6-4 lead over the Eagles. However, UNW would answer right back with a layup and a three to take a 9-6 lead over NCU. This lead would give Northwestern command of the game as they would hold it for the rest of the first half. At the break, UNW would hold a 43-31 lead over the Rams.
Coming out of the locker room, the Eagles would hold on to their momentum from the first half as they would start to put this game out of reach for the Rams. UNW would have a big third quarter, outscoring NCU 28-10 to increase the deficit. The fourth quarter would be much of the same as Northwestern was firing on all cylinders offensively. The Eagles would eventually drop the Rams to 2-1 in UMAC play as they would win this one by a score of 90-54.
