Rams Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Seven With 3-0 Win Over Northland

Minneapolis, MN -- Friday, the North Central University (NCU) women's volleyball team hosted the Northland College (NC) Lumberjills. North Central debuted their brand new Nike Baby Blue Uniforms for tonight's match, as the crowd cheered with their baby blue rally towels courtesy of NCU SALC. The Rams took it to the Lumberjills, who remain winless after a 3-0 sweep tonight. Junior Maci Tripp recorded a team-high 17 digs as the defensive specialist was recognized for her 500th career dig before the match.

Set one started off well for the Rams as freshman Erica Tormanen got going early from her outside position. However, the Lumberjills would rally back to pull within two points at 13-11. Senior captain Jada Lee recorded three straight aces from the service line to help propel the Ram late in the set. Nana Lopez and Maggie Kohl found their stride late in the set as well as they both had a pair of kills to give NCU the 25-17 set one win.

Set two started off in Northland's favor as the visitors took an early 9-5 lead. Three straight kills by junior Nana Lopez eventually gave the Rams back the lead at 13-12. North Central closed out the set in dominating fashion as they outscored NC 12-3 to win 25-15.

The teams went back and forth in the early stages of what would be the final set of the match. The Lumberjills started to gain momentum as they took a 13-7 lead over the Rams. Suddenly, that momentum shifted as the Rams went on a 9-0 run off of numerous errors by Northland. The teams traded points in the back half of the set as the Lumberjills sought to steal a set to extend the match. Eventually, a final kill by Nana Lopez of the assist by senior Grace Brigson gave North Central the 25-23 set win and the 3-0 sweep over Northland College. Erica Tormanen and Maggie Kohl both finished with 8 kills to lead the Rams. Maci Tripp and Katie Martin finished with 17 and 14 digs, respectively, to lead NCU defensively.

Looking Ahead:

North Central faces its toughest test yet as the Rams turn around to host the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the #12 ranked University of Northwestern tomorrow. Game times are set for 1:00pm and 4:00pm.
