Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University (NCU) softball made the short trip over to the Edor Nelson Field Dome to play the Augsburg University (AU) Auggies in a non-conference doubleheader. The Rams are coming off a disappointing loss to Northwestern on Tuesday. Tonight, the Auggies had their way at the plate as they totaled 29 hits on the evening to defeat the Rams 8-0 (6 inn.) and 17-1 (5 inn.)
Game 1: NCU 0, AU 8
Delaney Riddle ripped a double to center field in the top of the first inning, but the Rams would not be able to bring her home. Augsburg was able to score a pair of runs in the first to take a 2-0 lead. In the next two innings, North Central dropped 1,2,3 as they could only muster weak contact. Meanwhile, the Auggies scored two runs in the second and followed that up with five more in the third to take a 7-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Kelsey Henninger drove one to right field to record a single and NCU's second hit of the game. With the score still 7-0, AU knocked in the walk-off run to take this game by a final score of 8-0.
Game 2: NCU 1, AU 17
Augsburg jumped all over NCU early in the second game of this doubleheader, scoring 5 runs in each of the first two innings to take a commanding 10-0 advantage. Maggie Kohl recorded a hit in the second off an infield ground ball. In the third inning, AU batted in three more runs to bump the total to 13-0. In the top of the fourth, the Rams finally started having some quality at-bats. Kelsey Henniger started things off with a single and then Delaney Riddled followed by reaching on an error to move Henninger to second. Aurora Prettyman reached on a fielders choice to to the shortstop and then Maci Tripp singled up the middle to score Riddle's pinch runner, Ramiyah Words. Augsburg tacked on 4 additional runs to make it 17-1 going into the final inning, where North Central would not be able to score again. The Auggies won handily 17-1 over NCU.
