Auburndale, FL -- This morning, the baseball team from North Central University (NCU) faced the Saint Vincent College (SVC) Bearcats in game four of the Russmatt Invitational. Their second game of the day was canceled due to thunderstorms. Today, they were defeated with a final score of 7-11, to put their record at 0-4 for this trip. Sophomore
Caleb Alfaro has a sensational day, drilling two home runs, including a grand slam, and all 7 RBIs for the Rams.
The Rams jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, with leadoff hitter
Jacobi Woodfin working a walk, followed by a single from
Dawson Barson. A passed ball moved both runners into scoring position, and
Teagan Burch drew a walk to load the bases. Sophomore
Caleb Alfaro wasted no time making an impact, crushing a grand slam to right field to give NCU a commanding early advantage. However, Saint Vincent responded quickly with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first, evening the score. NCU kept applying pressure. In the third inning, Alfaro stepped up once again, launching a two-run home run to right field to give the Rams a 6-4 lead. The Rams added another run in the fourth after a walk by Woodfin and a passed ball, setting up Alfaro for an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-4. NCU had chances late in the game, including a ninth-inning push when Woodfin reached base via a walk and advanced on a wild pitch. However, Saint Vincent's pitching staff closed the door, securing their 11-7 win.
Caleb Alfaro finished the day 3-4 from the plate, with 2 home runs, and all 7 RBIs.
