Winter Haven, FL -- The North Central University (NCU) softball team faced the Saint Vincent College (SVC) Bearcats and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers for another matchup in North Central's spring games. This is the first meeting between these two teams, which resulted in a loss for the Rams with a final score of 6-0 against the Bearcats and a second 12-3 loss against the Engineers.
Game 1: NCU 3, SVC 11
North Central struck first in the opening inning when
Aurora Prettyman doubled to right field, scoring
Addison Schroer. However, Saint Vincent responded quickly with two runs in the bottom half and broke the game open with a six-run second inning. The Rams fought back in the third as
Kelsey Henninger bunted for a single, setting up
Isabela Gallardo's RBI triple.
Kaitlyn Havens followed with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 8-3. North Central's defense held firm in the third, but Saint Vincent tacked on three more in the fourth. Gallardo led the Rams, going 2-3 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Prettyman added an RBI double, and Havens chipped in a run-scoring single. Schroer pitched all four innings, battling against a tough lineup. However, despite North Central's well-executed defense, the Rams fell to the Bearcats with a score of 11-3.
Game 2: NCU 3, RPI 12
RPI took an early lead in the first inning, but North Central responded in the third with a key offensive push. Freshman shortstop Isabela Gallardo sparked the offense with a leadoff double, later coming around to score and put North Central on the board. Pitcher Addison Schroer also contributed at the plate, delivering a single to keep the momentum alive. RPI took control with a big third inning, capitalizing on a series of defensive miscues to build a commanding lead. Despite the deficit, North Central continued to fight. In the final inning, Gabbie Ruzek worked a walk to get things started, and Gallardo reached base again on an error. Schroer followed with her second hit of the game, setting up a scoring opportunity. Kaitlyn Havens and Aurora Prettyman delivered clutch RBI hits, pushing two more runs across before RPI closed out the game with a final score of 12-3.
