Superior, WI -- Today, the softball team from North Central University (NCU) continued their series in a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets. Yesterday, the Rams suffered a loss from the Yellowjackets as they finalized the score at 17-3. Today, the Rams would be swept once again as they lost in both games with a score of 10-1 and 21-0.
Game 1: NCU 1, UWS 10
North Central wasted no time getting on the board in the opening frame. Senior catcher
Aurora Prettyman sparked the offense with a one-out double to left, and senior pitcher
Erica Gilles followed with a clutch RBI single to left field. Gilles' hit, which advanced her to second on a fielding error, brought in Prettyman for the Rams' lone run of the game. After the Rams' early 1-0 lead, the opponent responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a two-run home run. The hosts then tacked on another run in the second before exploding for a seven-run third inning to take control of the game. NCU collected six hits on the day, led by
Delaney Riddle and
Gabbie Ruzek, who each contributed base hits, while
Erma Ramirez added a single in the fourth. Ruzek's hit nearly sparked another scoring opportunity, but she was thrown out attempting to score on a single by Ramirez. Despite the final result, Gilles completed the full game in the circle, pitching four innings. The Rams fell 10-1 after 5 innings.Â
Game 2: NCU 0, UWS 21
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Rams ran into dominant pitching and timely hitting from their opponent. Freshman
Adison Schroer recorded North Central's only hit of the game with a single up the middle in the second inning. The Rams threatened briefly that inning, but a strikeout ended the frame. From there, NCU struggled to keep pace as their opponent took advantage of five fielding errors to score nine runs in the second and six more in both the third and fourth innings. Offensively, North Central was shut down by strong pitching, striking out 10 times and managing just one baserunner. Schroer also started in the circle and
Isabela Gallardo came in to pitch the fourth. NCU fell 21-0 in five innings when it was all said and done.
