Burch and Barson Record Home Runs in Home Loss to UWS

Maple Grove, MN -- Today, the baseball team from North Central University (NCU) finished up their series against the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets. After dropping both contests in Saturday's doubleheader, the Rams were unable to bounce back in the finale, falling by a score of 26-6. Dawson Barson and Teagan Burch each hit home runs in the Rams' 9-hit outing.

Superior jumped out early with a four-run first inning, featuring back-to-back home runs. North Central responded immediately as junior infielder Dawson Barson launched a solo home run to left field, his first of the season, trimming the deficit to 4-1. The second inning saw the visitors erupt for nine more runs, capitalizing on walks, hit batters, and miscues. North Central cycled through arms on the mound, bringing in junior left-hander Tim Yohan Dixon, sophomore Jacob Garcia, and senior Crespin Herrera Il-Kult in an attempt to slow the momentum. After falling behind 17-1, NCU found some rhythm in the fourth. Senior catcher Teagan Burch led off with a single and was moved over by sophomore Caleb Alfaro, who also singled. Senior Brett Letness then drove in Burch on a groundout to score the Rams' second run of the afternoon. NCU's best offensive inning came in the fifth. Graduate student Nate Boyer started things off with a single, followed by a walk from sophomore Nolan Taylor. Barson then delivered again, driving in a run with a base hit. After a groundout moved both runners into scoring position, Teagan Burch stepped up and crushed a three-run home run to center — his first of the year, sixth career— bringing NCU within 11 at 17-6. Letness and freshman Abiram Terron De Jesus added back-to-back singles in the sixth, but the Rams were unable to bring them home. The Yellowjackets responded with a five-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Despite the final score, the Rams put together a nine-hit effort and showed fight in the middle innings.
