Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ramirez Ties Career High With 19 Saves in Road Test Versus UWS

Superior, WI – The North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team began Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action on Wednesday evening with a tough test on the road against the reigning conference champions from the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS). Playing under the lights at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium, the Rams entered determined to set the tone early in conference play. From the opening whistle, it was clear they would be facing a fast-paced and aggressive opponent. Senior goalkeeper, Erma Ramirez, was under heavy pressure for the full 90 minutes, tying her career high in total saves (19) on an onslaught of 42 total shots (25 SOG) by UWS. The Yellowjackets secured the 7-0 win to end the nightcap.

The Rams opened the match committed to defensive structure, with senior goalkeeper Erma Ramirez immediately tested by multiple shots in the opening minutes. Ramirez kept NCU in the match with a series of strong stops, recording 10 saves in the first half alone. Despite her efforts, Superior managed to slip two goals past the Rams before halftime. North Central's back line, led by junior Ramiyah Words and freshman Ellison Powell, worked tirelessly to disrupt plays in the box and clear second-chance opportunities. Although NCU didn't generate a shot in the first period, the Rams stayed compact and disciplined, heading into the break trailing 2-0

Coming out of the locker room, the Rams looked to push forward and create more opportunities. Sophomore forward Catelyn Ketterling and junior Paula Capili provided energy up front, stretching the field and pressing high when chances allowed. Their pressure opened space for NCU's only registered shot of the match, a second-half attempt from senior defender Tayler Boudreaux that missed narrowly wide. As the half wore on, Superior's attack continued to build, eventually adding four more goals. Even as the score line widened, NCU's effort never faded. Ramirez stood out once again with 9 more saves in the second half, finishing with 19 saves on the night against 42 total shots faced. That effort underscored her role as the anchor of the Rams' defense, keeping the team battling until the final whistle. Superior secured the 7-0 victory when it was all said and done.

Looking Ahead:

The Rams continue UMAC play as they head to New Ulm, MN, to take on Martin Luther this Saturday, September 20th at 4:30 PM.
