Clermont, FL -- Friday, North Central University (NCU) Softball wrapped up its spring trip to Florida with one final doubleheader at the Legends Way Ballfields, taking on the Augustana College (AC) Vikings and the St. Lawrence University (SLU) Saints. The Rams faced a tough slate, falling in both contests by finals of 0-10 and 0-20.
Game 1: North Central 0, Augustana 10
North Central opened the day looking to set the tone early, but the Rams were held scoreless despite early contact at the plate. Freshman shortstop
Reese Jenkins recorded the team's first hit with a double, while junior outfielder/pitcher
Kianna Kidder added another knock to account for both of NCU's hits in the contest. In the circle, graduate pitcher
Alley Fleener got the start, while Kidder provided steady relief across three innings, limiting further damage and working through traffic with composure. Defensively, the Rams battled through a challenging first inning but settled in as the game progressed, turning a key double play and tightening up in the later frames. Offensively, North Central threatened in the fourth inning after Jenkins' double, but the rally was halted before any runs could cross. Despite the result, the Rams showed flashes of offensive potential and continued to compete throughout all five innings.
Game 2: North Central 0, St. Lawrence 20
In the second game of the day, the Rams continued to battle against a high-powered offense while finding moments of success offensively late in the game. Freshman infielders
Alyssa Leos and
Allina Mendoza each recorded hits for North Central, with both coming in the fifth inning as the Rams mounted their best scoring opportunity of the game. Junior pitcher
Erica Gilles reached base after being hit by a pitch to spark the rally, as NCU loaded the bases and put pressure on the defense. Freshman pitcher
Mykaela Broek got the start in the circle, working through multiple innings before Gilles entered in relief. Gilles provided stability down the stretch, recording an inning-plus of work while limiting further momentum. Defensively, the Rams continued to compete inning-by-inning, working through adversity and showing persistence. The fifth inning rally highlighted North Central's ability to respond and generate offense late, a positive sign heading into conference play.
Looking Ahead:
Up next, the Rams return home to Minnesota to host the University of Minnesota Morris in a UMAC three-game series. The series opening doubleheader is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1st, at 1:00/3:00 PM at Reynolds Field in St. Paul.
