Game Recap: Baseball |

Late Push Falls Short as Rams Face Morris in Makeup Doubleheader

Morris, MN -- Saturday, North Central University (NCU) baseball commenced their series against the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) Cougars in a rescheduled doubleheader at Chizek Field after earlier poor field conditions pushed the matchup back from its original April 4th date. Adjusting to the midweek change, the Rams battled throughout the day but were narrowly edged in game one before falling in game two, highlighted by timely offensive production and key individual performances.

Game 1: North Central 5, Minnesota Morris 6

North Central struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on early baserunners. Freshman outfielder Jack Meckler led the charge with a single, later coming around to score on an RBI groundout by freshman catcher Aaron Alvarado to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Minnesota Morris responded quickly to tie the game and gradually built a lead behind timely hitting in the middle innings. However, North Central continued to battle back. In the fifth inning, senior shortstop Dawson Barson doubled to spark the offense, and sophomore infielder Abiram Terron De Jesus delivered an RBI single to even the score at 2-2. The Rams' biggest offensive surge came in the sixth inning. Freshman outfielder Keo Coleman doubled and later stole third, while junior outfielder Jacobi Woodfin worked a walk and swiped second. Meckler came through again with an RBI double, and De Jesus followed with another RBI, helping NCU reclaim a 4-2 advantage. On the mound, freshman right-handed pitcher Darrion Wesley provided a strong start, tossing 6.0 innings with five strikeouts while allowing just three earned runs, keeping the Rams in control deep into the game. Late innings proved pivotal, as the game tightened and eventually moved into a tied situation. Senior left-handed pitcher Tim Yohan Dixon entered in relief, but a walk-off sequence in the ninth inning allowed the Cougars to slip past the Rams.

Game 2: North Central 1, Minnesota Morris 9

The Rams looked to bounce back in the second game, but early scoring swings created a deficit they were unable to overcome. Morris plated runs in two of the first three innings, building momentum early. North Central found a spark in the fifth inning when freshman Aaron Alvarado launched a solo home run, cutting into the deficit and providing a key offensive highlight. Alvarado continued to be a bright spot at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, double, and the Rams' lone RBI. Senior right-handed pitcher Ivan Demel started on the mound and worked through five innings, striking out four while battling through traffic on the bases. The bullpen, led by sophomore right-hander Tim Bullert, worked to limit further damage, but a multi-run sixth inning widened the gap. Despite collecting five hits in the contest, the Rams were unable to string together multiple scoring innings against a complete-game effort from the Cougars' starter.
