North Central Opens Conference Series Against Crown

St. Bonifacius, MN -- Friday, North Central University (NCU) Softball traveled west for a UMAC matchup against the Crown College (CC) Polars, falling 14-2 in five innings. Despite the result, the Rams continued to show flashes of offensive consistency, tallying seven hits and producing extra-base power from the top of the lineup.

North Central threatened early in the opening frame as sophomore catcher Kaitlyn Havens roped a two-out double, followed by a walk from freshman first baseman Bailey Bast, but the Rams were unable to capitalize and left two runners stranded. After falling behind in the early innings, North Central responded in the third. Freshman outfielder Abi Rogers sparked the offense with a leadoff single and quickly moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Bast delivered with a clutch RBI single to bring Rogers home, putting the Rams on the board and continuing her steady production at the plate. The Rams continued to battle offensively throughout the game, finishing with seven hits. Freshman third baseman Rhaina Boggess turned in a strong performance, going 2-for-2 with a double, while Havens also recorded a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with an extra-base hit. Rogers led the way at the top of the order, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a triple, and a stolen base, consistently applying pressure on the basepaths. In the fifth inning, North Central added another run as Rogers tripled to open the frame and later scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman shortstop Reese Jenkins, showcasing the Rams' ability to manufacture runs late in the game. In the circle, freshman utility player Mykaela Broek started for the Rams, while graduate pitcher Alley Fleener provided a bright spot in relief, tossing a scoreless inning and striking out two to close out the contest. North Central showed resilience offensively with multiple extra-base hits and consistent contact throughout the lineup, but ultimately fell short, losing 14-2 by run-rule.
