Broek Paces Rams in Series Opener Versus Martin Luther

St. Paul, MN -- Friday, North Central University (NCU) Softball opened its final series of the season at Reynolds Field, battling through early opportunities and flashes of production at the plate against the Martin Luther College (MLC) Knights. Despite collecting seven hits and generating key chances offensively, the Rams were unable to sustain momentum, falling 11-1 in the series opener.

North Central showed early resilience after surrendering runs in the opening frame, responding in the bottom of the second with its lone tally of the game. Freshman utility player Mykaela Broek delivered a key RBI single to left field, scoring freshman third baseman Rhaina Boggess, who reached earlier in the inning and advanced into scoring position on a defensive miscue. The sequence highlighted the Rams' ability to capitalize on pressure situations and turn limited opportunities into production. Throughout the middle innings, North Central continued to find ways to put runners on base. Freshman center fielder Abi Rogers sparked the offense with a double down the line and finished 1-for-4, while graduate pitcher/infielder Alley Fleener added a hit of her own. Junior pitcher/first baseman Erica Gilles also contributed offensively, going 1-for-3 and helping the Rams tally seven hits on the day. Broek led the Rams offensively with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in the team's only run while also battling through all seven innings in the circle. The freshman showed toughness and endurance, working through traffic and continuing to compete despite facing consistent pressure. North Central's best chance to build momentum came in the fourth inning, when back-to-back singles from freshman first baseman/third baseman Bailey Bast and Broek put runners in scoring position. The Rams threatened to close the gap, but a defensive stand ended the inning before additional runs could cross. The Knights sealed the deal with a 6-run inning in the top of the seventh, and North Central was unable to overcome.
