Prior to his district-wide leadership roles, McNeal spent more than a decade serving as Athletic Director at both Edison High School and South High School in Minneapolis. Throughout his career, he has developed a strong reputation for building inclusive athletic environments, mentoring coaches and staff, strengthening community relationships, and creating opportunities for student-athletes to succeed both academically and athletically. Developing Champions On and Off the Court
"I am incredibly honored and delighted to join the team at North Central University as the new Executive Director of Athletics," said McNeal. "My leadership philosophy is built on the foundation of holistic stewardship — not just developing elite competitors, but nurturing the hearts, minds, and spiritual lives of our student-athletes. My heart has always been dedicated to the holistic growth of student-athletes, and my goal is to lead this department with a philosophy that prioritizes character, mentorship, and excellence."
A standout athlete in his own right, McNeal emerged as one of Minnesota's premier prep basketball players during his time at Minneapolis North High School. The 6-foot-3 guard led the Polars to three consecutive state tournament appearances while earning All-American honors and the distinction of Minnesota Mr. Basketball in 1985. Known for his leadership, scoring ability, and court vision, McNeal became one of the most accomplished players in Minneapolis North High School history.
McNeal continued his playing career at NCAA Division I Western Kentucky University, where he competed for the nationally recognized Hilltoppers men's basketball program. During his collegiate career, he appeared in 120 games and averaged 15.5 points per game while earning Collegiate All-American honors. His impact on the program later earned him induction into the Western Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.
"NCU's strong alignment of faith, academic excellence, and community deeply resonates with my professional and personal calling," McNeal added. "My vision is to establish a premier athletics program that champions student success both on and off the court, immediately elevating their experiences and creating a lasting culture of purpose and achievement. I look forward to working alongside NCU's talented coaches and staff to bring an impactful vision to life and immediate value to our university's athletic programs."
