MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — North Central (MN) women's soccer opened UMAC play Wednesday at Parade Park Field, falling to Wisconsin-Superior, North Central 0, Wisconsin-Superior 4.
Wisconsin-Superior applied pressure from the opening whistle, but North Central held the Yellowjackets scoreless for the first 23 minutes behind a series of early saves. Wisconsin-Superior broke through in the 24th minute and added two more before halftime to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
North Central settled in after the restart, holding Wisconsin-Superior off the board for the better part of 40 minutes before the visitors added a late goal in the 86th minute.
The story of the night was in goal, where Olivia Johnlouis went the full 90 minutes and turned aside 17 shots. That is a workload few keepers face in a single match. She was especially busy in the opening half, making nine stops before the break, and stayed sharp throughout the second half with eight more saves.
The Rams also showed some fight going forward late, earning all three of their corner kicks in the second half as Hannah Sawczak and Joselyn Eckhart worked to push play forward from the midfield. Joyce Horton, Ramiyah Words and Chloe Bjorlin each went the full 90 minutes on the back line, while Gisselle Orr provided 36 minutes off the bench.
