MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - North Central (MN) men's soccer opened UMAC play Wednesday at Parade Park Field, falling to Wisconsin-Superior, North Central 1, Wisconsin-Superior 3.
Wisconsin-Superior opened the scoring in the 11th minute and added a second goal in the 37th to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Yellowjackets struck again just before the 50-minute mark off a corner kick to push the lead to three.
North Central got on the board in the 70th minute when David Ajayi buried a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Rams pushed hard down the stretch, generating several looks on goal in the final 20 minutes as they searched for more.
Alex Gianikas was busy between the posts, going the full 90 minutes and turning aside nine shots to keep North Central within striking distance throughout. The Rams matched Wisconsin-Superior's second-half energy, putting four shots up in each half.
North Central got contributions across the lineup. Francisco Ramirez went the full 90 minutes and forced a save in the first half, while Santiago Grams and Giovanni Rech Santos each tested the Wisconsin-Superior keeper in the second half. Steven Griffith, Miguel Mancilla and Samuel Thom also logged all 90 minutes, and Israel Tomlin added a shot attempt off the bench.
