Tyler Engel starts his 5th season with the Rams, spending 2 seasons as an assistant coach and 2 as a graduate assistant coach for the men’s basketball program. He also serves as the Athletic Operations Coordinator and Intramural Coordinator for the athletic department.
Engel is a key contributor to the success of the men’s basketball program. The past four seasons have been filled with many firsts, including a historic finish to the 2024-25 season, winning a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship and the NCCAA D2 National Championship.
Other accomplishments in 4 seasons include: 36 total UMAC wins, finishing tied for 4th place or higher in conference each season, 3 UMAC playoff appearances, coached 18 players recognized in UMAC post season awards, team GPA over 3.25 the last two seasons (4 straight semesters).
Engel’s other experiences include being a practice player for the Minnesota Lynx for 2 seasons, coaching the Minnesota Splash AAU team the past 3 summers, and working multiple camps in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Prior to coaching the Rams, Engel graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (SMU-MN) with a degree in Sport Management and Business Intelligence & Analytics in 2021. While attending, he was a member of the men’s basketball team for 3 years. As a Junior, SMU-MN participated in and won the first MIAC playoff game in their program’s history. Engel’s first year of college was spent as a redshirt at Viterbo University, an NAIA school located in La Crosse, WI. Tyler is a native of Edgar, Wisconsin, and a 2017 graduate of Edgar High School.
