Rams Advance to NCCAA National Tournament

  • The Rams were able to hold the Pilots in the sixth round of PK's to cap off the victory. 
  • The Rams advance to the NCCAA National Tournament as the North Regional Champs. 

Game Recap

  • North Central continued to use the same formula on Saturday that they ahd used throughout the entire tournament, defense. The Rams were extremely stout on the defensive end, not allowing many opportunities for the Pilots early. Neither team was able to create much separation on the offensive end as both failed to find the back of the net in the first period. The Rams were able to move into the driver's seat in the second half with the first goal of the game in the 57th minute when Dennis Morales connected on a header that was lofted over the Providence goalkeeper and into the back of the net. North Central seemed as though they were poised for victory as the half went on, but a costly penalty set the Pilots up with a penalty kick in the 66th minute, in which they converted to tie the game up at 1-1. North Central had a few opportunities late in the waning minutes of regulation, but would come up short setting us up for an overtime thriller. The first overtime period was filled with nothing but defense as neither team even sniffed a scoring opportunity. The teams battled into another overtime period, which proved to not be enough as the two were still unable to find a winner. The Rams were able to convert on all six penalty kick attempts, while senior, Gabe Hartwig, came up huge in the 6th round to deflect the attempt from the Pilots, clinching the victory for the Rams.
