Rams show resilience against Northland

MINNEAPOLIS, -- Upon returning back to their home court of Clark-Danielson Gymnasium, the North Central University (NCU) volleyball team went head-to-head with the UMAC foe Northland College on Wednesday night. In a contest that saw the Blue and Gold looking to get back on their feet after falling to the #1 UMAC seed University of Minnesota, Morris Cougars, the Rams were unable to bounce back and fell to the Lumberjills in three sets (25-22, 25-14, 25-9).

Game Recap

Resilience against a talented Lumberjills squad tells the story in this conference matchup. Even though the Lumberjills took the match in three straight sets,, the Rams managed an exceedingly strong start by jumping out to a first set lead of six to zero. From that moment on, however, Northland found ways to rotate their attack along all hitting lanes of the net and stay on the offensive hunt all night. The Rams' backcourt attempted to rotate as quick as possible with the block to accommodate the Lumberjills' lengthy outside hitters, but they were unable to synchronize with one another. Although the match did not end in the Rams' favor tonight, the Blue and Gold showcased great heart and perseverance after facing two tough conference teams in back-to-back matches.

Key Performer(s):
  • Emily DiGiorgio generated 7 crucial kills to pressure the Lumberjill defensive as much as possible.
  • Myah Womer made her way onto the stat sheet by recording 3 service aces for the Rams. Womer attacked the backcourt well and will be a massive asset for the Rams' future moving forward from the service line.
Looking Ahead

NCU volleyball has now moved on to a record of 9-12 on the 2019 season (1-5 UMAC), and will strive to end their last two UMAC matches on a high note. The Rams will enjoy being at home for the rest of the week as they are anticipating another conference matchup against the University of Wisconsin, Superior Yellowjackets. The next few days off from matches will give NCU a vital opportunity to regather and prepare for a versatile Yellowjacket volleyball team.
