Rams Fall to the Tigers on Opening Day

TUCSON, Ariz. – North Central University (NCU) opened their 2019 season under the sunny skies of Arizona with a nail-bitter against Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU). DWU was the first one on the board, but the Rams battled back with a fury of runs through the early innings. Wesleyan used a massive four run fourth inning to regain the lead. DWU continued to build their lead until the Rams threatened in ninth inning scoring 3 to narrow the gap, but the rally would fall short as DWU was able to put the Rams away by a score of 11-8

GAME VITALS
  • Rams were solid at the plate finishing with 16 hits
  • Tiger batters stayed consistent scoring in 6 of their 8 innings at bat
  • The loss is the first for the Rams in the 2019 season

GAME RECAP

Michael Barrientos (0-1) received the starting nod for the first time in his young career. Barrientos settled in early, giving up only one run in the first three innings. The Tigers got to the young buck in the fourth inning as they scored 4 runs and followed it up with another in the 5th to regain the lead and forcing Barrientos out of the contest.

DWU continued to add to their lead as they scored at least one run in the final five innings. With their backs up against the wall, down six runs in their final at bat, the Rams battled back connecting on five total hits to pull with in three runs of the Tigers. NCU's rally fell just a bit short as it ended with a ground out to the pitcher giving the Tigers an 11-8 victory, just their second on the young season.

Chris Harding was impressive for the Rams at the plate leading them with three hits in his five at bats while also knocking in two runs. Freshman,Cole Sneed , shined in his first taste of collegiate baseball as he was a steady presence behind the plate at catcher and also brought in two runs on his two hits. Michael Barrientos finished his outing on the mound giving up eight hits in five innings pitch and suffering the loss.
